Our community project this year will be a “Make and Take” at the RJAC Under The Bridge Concert.  A date will be chosen by our next meeting so that we may proceed.  Please bring your ideas for the make and take to our next meeting and a sample/picture of the project if possible.  We will need to secure the components necessary and print out instructions that may be taken home.  Many in our group like to upcycle so upcycling (formerly recycling) ideas would be greatly appreciated; but all ideas are welcome.  We discussed that at the Make and Take, we may want to show some items that individuals have made using upcycled materials.  This may generate more interest in our group and maybe more new memberships.
Our 2015 scholarship of $250 was combined with another scholarship so that Hailey Vosen, who will be going to Stout in WI, received a total amount of $1500. She plans to study media graphics with a goal of becoming a designer for advertising.  Congrats Hailey!

Our monthly program calendar has been filled!  June’s program will be by doll maker Sara Males.  July we will have a picnic in WI and visit one or two lovely gardens; one at the lovely home of Pat Boesel.  August will bring us a clay tile maker/potter from Erne, WI.  He will be doing a “scrafitto” 6” tile make and take for us.  If you would like to participate by make a tile, there is a $30 charge which covers the tile material, coloring, and firing.  You will create your own design that night.  You are also welcome to come to the meeting and observe the process that night.  If you would like to make the tile, please sign up and pay by the July 25th meeting.  Sign up at a regular meeting or contact one of the board members or Java Jan.
Java Jan will be hosting a wood barn quilt make and take at the Eagles Nest Coffee House on Tuesday, May 31st at 1 pm.  The deadline to sign up is May 25th.  The cost is $55 for a 2’ X 2’ wooden quilt and all materials will be provided.   (There may be an opportunity later for a larger 4’ X 4’ quilt class.)

We enjoyed a fabulous demo by mom and daughter, and best friends, Martha Ely-Steines and Rachel Steines.  Martha shared a short story of why she started felting and how happy it makes her feel whenever she is feeling down.  They showed us how to wet felt a bracelet and added fun yarns.  They also showed a shibori round shawl that Rachel was wearing, a nuno felted silk vest that Martha was wearing and lots of fun items that they had made.  What a fun and loving relationship they have.
