Minutes – 2014 June

RIVER VALLEY ARTS GUILD   Meeting: June 23, 2014

CALL TO ORDER:  The meeting was called to order by Mary M.

OFFICER INTRODUCTIONS

MEMBERSHIP:  17 members present.

VISITORS:  Rosie, friend of Mary Mc, showed One Block Wonder, Cassie, owner of local B&B showed her pottery, Mary, likes to crochet, quilts and make wreaths.

TREASURER’s REPORT:   On Hand; $1,942.13.  Expenditures totaled $50.  52 paid members.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:   May minutes approved.

OLD BUSINESS:

Boutique and Fiber Art (Quilt) Show:  Dates are confirmed for November 21, 22, 23.

Boutique Donation Project:  Part of the mission guild is to make a donation to the local organization.  Barb B. suggested that each member bring in one item for the boutique.  This item would be priced and marked as ‘donation’.  The proceeds of the sale of these items will be used in the community.  The deadline for completing and presenting the item is the October meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

Collect ideas for community donations.  Bring ideas to next meeting of organizations within your community who would benefit from a donation.  For example, Star of Hope, Community Closets, Arts for Scholarship.  If you are not from the Wabasha area, bring names of groups within your community.

July meeting announcement:   The July meeting and program will take place at the Anderson Gardens.  You can meet at the Eagles Nest Coffee House and car pool or drive directly to the gardens.  Meet at ENCH no later than 6 PM.  For those not going to the coffee house, meet before 6:30 PM at Anderson Gardens.  We will have a short meeting at 6:30, tour the beautiful flower gardens and then enjoy root beer floats.  The address for the Gardens is 64784 141st Avenue, Wabasha.  More directions will be posted on the website.  We would like to get a count of those coming.  We will send an email with a link to vote “yes” or “no” regarding attendance.  Mark your calendar for July 28 at the Anderson Gardens.

RVAG SUBGROUP UPDATES:

MATERIAL GIRLS:   Barb T reported that several members of Material Girls attended the Minnesota State Quilt show in St. Cloud.  At the June meeting the members showed their showed #2 of 4 of their seasonal project for 2014.  Several are working on finishing up quilts for Barb S family.

WILD WOOLIE WOMEN:  Jan K. reported.  Putting together some field trip ideas.

HOOKERS:  Meets every Friday at ENCH at 11 AM

SHOW AND TELL:

Jan K. showed a wool appliqué she is doing on cotton patchwork.

Barb B. used Marimekko sample squares to make a table cloth.  Very colorful

Pam C.  showed a quilt block she started a few (well lots of) years ago.  It is a quilt as you go in colors of blue and mauve. 

Gail S. showed a wool bird appliqué wall hanging and a Sue Spago wool appliqué tote she made.

Carol K.:  Showed expandable Flamingo bag, art quilt and dish towel embroidery.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:   Cultural Cloth is in Maiden Rock.  Check out their website for upcoming class listing.

Running Dog Ranch has a few opening in their drum making workshop this Saturday, June 28.  June 25 is the last day to sign up.  Check their websitewww.runningdogranch.org for a complete list of upcoming classes.

Gail S.  proposed a Decorah, Iowa field trip.  This would take place in October.  The plan would be to visit the Vesterheim Museum.  Vesterheim is a national treasure that explores the diversity of American immigration through the lens of Norwegian-American experience, showcases the best in historic and contemporary Norwegian folk and fine arts, and preserves living traditions through classes in Norwegian culture and folk art, including rosemaling (decorative painting), woodcarving and woodworking, knifemaking, and textile arts.  More details to follow.

ONGOING  BUSINESS REMINDERS:  Name tags are helpful for all of us.  They may be left at ENCH. 

Meeting are the 4th Monday of every month (unless changed due to  holidays).  The social time is 6 PM with meeting start time at 6:30.  A program follows the meeting.

NEXT MEETING July 28, 2014 Anderson Gardens.  There will be a short meeting at 6:30 followed by a tour of the gardens.
