Minutes-2015, April



CALL TO ORDER: at 6:34 pm at the Eagles Nest Coffee House by Nancy Z.

MEMBERS PRESENT: 25 members. New members: Jean Garrison of Red Wing & Kate Halverson of Lake City.

TREASURER’S REPORT: On Hand: $1610. Expenditures: $100 ($50 donation to the Common Closet).   Deposits: $24. Balance as of 4/27: $1,534. 50 paid members.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: March 2015 minutes motion to approve by Jan K; all agreed.


Urban Shanty – A fun time was had by those that went. Check out their Facebook page.

We will move our spring boutique to Riverboat Days (July 24-26). We need volunteers to make items to sell, work at the boutique¸ place ads, make posters, etc. Jan sent an email to members; please respond to her now if you haven’t already on how you will be helping to make this a success!!

Dye Class Review by Angela – colors were great; very energizing class, you need to learn to “dye by eye”.   She and others would like to do it again. Some that missed it would like to do it also. We need to find a date when the instructors are available and set up new class!!

W-K RVAG Art Scholarship will not be awarded this year as we received notice that no student will be going on to an art related program. We hope it will be awarded next year!


MATERIAL GIRLS: Austin Quilt Retreat – fun had by all!! Blazing Saddles was the theme: decorated saddles, stick ponies, Western wear.

WILD WOOLIE WOMEN: Will discuss what to do for RVAG presentation at their next meeting.

HOOKERS: No report


Judy Burfiend – She showed a beautiful quilt star block and said she made 13 braided wool rugs!

Ione – Learning rug hooking and making a rug.

Sue – Rug hooking a purse.

Pat B – Showed an old quilt she got from her mom; not a family heirloom but very nice.

Angela M –Made a large crocheted baby blanket.

Nancy Z – Showed a picture of her first quilt. She also rug hooked a cushion for a church pew.

Pam – Showed the finished blocks she will use to make her t-shirt memory quilt.

Barb B – Showed dye techniques she used in the recent class. She took yarn & over-dyed it. She made some wonderful colors, including a beautiful ombre yarn and finished a few projects that she showed: fingerless mittens, hat, and shawl.

Rheta S – She made2 jackets & a raincoat while gone this winter but didn’t have them to show.

Kate H – New meeting ideas: Book art for June program.   November is still open for now.


Judy Sage is shearing sheep at her farm on Sun, May 3rd.

Shepherd’s Harvest on May 16-17.

Mary F is going to Tanzania – looking for small item donations like baby bibs, hats, etc. She is leaving in August; contact Mary if any questions.

Duluth Quilt Show is June 11. Jan K may have reserved rooms left so call her if you want to go and need a room.

Punch needle class and reunion/retreat at ENCH on May 28th at 10 am. This is open to all. Bring something to work on or supplies you have. Jan K has kits (hoop, fabric, & needle) & patterns available for sale at ENCH.   Bev Rice, Patti E, Gail S, and Pat B are attending for sure. Contact Patti E. for more info. SURPRISE??


Next month’s meeting on Monday, May 18th, not the following Monday which is Memorial Day.   The program will be Annabelle Art Dolls by Ann Rehbein.

Our new Webmaster will be Angela Mazaika. A HUGE thank you to Pat Boesel for getting it up and running and training Angela!!


A wonderful program was given by Mary Logue. She read several poems that she wrote and explained what gives her inspiration. She also displayed several hooked rugs/wall hangings. Such beautiful work!! Thanks for sharing your talents with us Mary!!
